Sunken Armada was formed in 2011 by then part-time WFNX-Boston DJ and Drab drummer Jason Layne as a vehicle for songwriting which he crafts at his DIY home studio called Freedom of 76 Studios in Arlington, MA.

He is influenced by indie rock labels of the 1990's (Matador, Sub Pop, Touch and Go) and the DIY style of Fugazi.
